Para-Phimosis And Phimosis

Para-Phimosis And Phimosis

When the newborn child’s foreskin is tightly adherent to their glans penis, the phimosis can be described as physiological. The natural separation takes place within the first 2 to 3 years of life. Phimosis is a normal occurrence in young children.

What is Phimosis?

Phimosis refers to the inability of the foreskin (prepuce) to be pulled back. The penis’ head is covered by the foreskin (glans). Phimosis may be both pathological and physiological. The current incidence of phimosis is approximately 1-2%.

Pathological phimosis refers to infection, ballooning of pre-pubic skin, while passing urine, and it lasts beyond 4 years. Balanoposthitis can cause scarring and further worsen the condition. The foreskin can be pulled back by force, causing bleeding and scarring. This is traumatizing for both the child and the parent. You should consult the best Circumcision Doctor in Kolkata for further treatment of pathologic phimosis.

How do you care for a child that isn't circumcised?

It does not require any special care. Avoid forceful retraction. You can gently retract the foreskin, but it is not recommended. Forcible retraction could cause severe bleeding and tearing of the preputial tissue. Fibrosis will repair the tear and cause phimosis.

What is Paraphimosis?

Retracted penis skin should be pulled back to its normal position. Paraphimosis is a condition that can result in paralysis. Paraphimosis is characterized by the constricting effect of the retracted skin, which causes oedema to the glans penis as well as the foreskin. The child can reduce it manually, but if this is impossible, the child should be taken to an operating room. Manual reduction should be done under general anaesthesia. To prevent paraphimosis recurrence, these patients should be circumcised.

What is Smegma?

It’s the accumulation of skin cells that have been shredded from the glans Penis and inner foreskin. This helps to separate foreskin and penis. The white pearls beneath the skin will appear. These can be easily washed off after the foreskin has been retracted.

How are Phimosis patients presented to the Pediatric Surgeons?

Pathologic phimosis is characterized by itching and/or bleeding of the foreskin, frequent infections of the urinary tract (balanoposthitis), paraphimosis or itching.

How does the Phimosis be treated?

For 3-4 weeks, you can try local corticosteroid cream ointment if the foreskin feels soft. As it may cause complications due to steroids, it is best to discontinue local steroid cream for a period of 3-4 weeks. If you are unable to respond to the local steroid cream or have foreskin that is fibrozed, it is recommended that you circumcise your body.

Circumcision:

Circumcision is the surgical removal or removal of the foreskin in boys. It is done under general anaesthesia in children. This can be done in a daycare setting. They will need paracetamol or another medication to manage the pain. A local ointment can be used to reduce the feeling of glans, infection and swelling. The parents should wash the child’s seat with warm water after a few days.
